Beaches in Lisbon Lisbon is the only European capital located in the direct neighbourhood to the coast, so apart from other attractions, it can offer to visitors also activities connected to water and a sun. On the coast are situated several sandy beaches, most of them are clean and even granted the European Union Blue Flag distinction. Although the temperatures aren't as high as in the southern part of Portugal, the beaches are always occupied - the Lisbon's inhabitants love to spend every minute of their spare time taking a sunbath or only walking across the coast.
All the beaches are located along the railway line connecting Lisbon with Cascais, and it's just about 20-30 minutes to get there from the center of the city. The most popular beach is, always crowded with people, Carcavelos Beach, while the wildest one is the Guincho beach, known in the world for surfing.

Carcavelos - over 1 kilometer long sandy beach, easy to reach and very attractive. Here are always crowds of people.
Praia da Adraga - it is surrounded by tall cliffs and considered as one of the best beaches in Europe, situated close to Sintra.
Costa da Caparica Beach - the best beaches situated along nearly 30 km of the south bank of the Tagus river, here are also many bars, restaurants and cafes.
Guincho Beach - situated outside Cascais, on the cliffs, the most beautiful beach in the Lisbon surrounding. It is well-known in the whole world for its perfect conditions for surfing and windsurfing.
Portinho da Arrábida - absolutely one of the most attractive beaches near Lisbon, the waters there are crystal and blue, and conditions for swimming and diving are excellent.
Meco Beach - one of the cleanest beaches on this coast, very quiet and calm, excellent for those who look for some isolation, also for nudists.
Sesimbra Beach - a nice, long beach perfect and safe for swimming, known for its good seafood restaurants.
Tamariz Beach - it's the most visited beach on the Lisbon coast - very close to the city and it's easy to get here.
Tróia Beach - few beaches with unusually soft sand, some of them are still virgin beaches. You can get here in 15 minutes by a ferry from the port of Setubal.
