The Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is housed in the former residence of the Portuguese painter José Malhoa. The art nouveau building was designed by the architect Norte Júnior and won the Valmor Prize in 1905 for its architecture.

The Museum's collection of about 2000 artworks was gathered by Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves, who was a famous ophthalmologist and a close friend of Calouste Gulbenkian.

The exhibition is divided into three main groups:

Chinese porcelain from the 12th to the 19th century, with a pieces from the Ming and Qing dynasties,
Portuguese painting from the 19th-century,
Portuguese and foreign furniture from the 17th to the 19th century.

Apart from these, this amazing collection includes also the jewellery section from the 16th to 20th centuries, paintings of foreign artists, European ceramics, tapestry and carpets, glasswork, coins, medals and bronzes.
