The Centro de Arte Moderna is a part of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. It was opened in 1983 and was named after first president of Foundation - Jose de Azeredo Perdigao.
The collection brings together works of the most representative Portuguese 20th century artists. Apart from national art this Centro houses also a large collection of British and Armenian art, which includes some important works. Most of these all artworks are dated up to the 1950's.
The Museum is divided into two zones placed on two floors. The exhibition on the Ground Floor contains the twentieth-century Portuguese art until the post-World War 2 movements. On the First Floor is presented selection of paintings, photographs and sculptures of Portuguese and British artists.
The main aim of the Centro de Arte Moderna is to promote and study contemporary art, especially Portuguese, by organizing permanent and temporary exhibitions and developing people interests in this field of education.
