Demography in Lisbon In Lisbon live about 564,477 inhabitants, while in the whole metropolis, including the suburbs, live over 2,800,000 people. The average population density is 6,658 persons per square kilometer. Just like the majority of the modern towns, also Lisbon is surrounded by the satelite cities - estimated about million of people every day commute to Lisbon.
According to datas from 2001 Portugal was inhabited by 10,356,117 residents - currently the Portugal population is a little larger and it is estimated on over the 10,6 millions of people. The population increase is caused in particular by immigration - mainly from Ukraine, Brazil, Capo Verde and Angola. On the end of 2003 the immigrants made up the 4,2% of all population.
Men make up the 48,3 % of population, while the women - 51,7%.
The significant majority of Portuguese people belong to the Roman church. Among the religious minorities are about: 300,000 protestants, 50,000 Muslims and 10,000 Indians. There are also about 1000 of Jews, but large number of people have the Jewish roots.
