The Lavra Funicular (Elevador do Lavra) is the oldest funicular in Lisbon. It was opened to the public in April 1884. At first it was powered with water, then (since 1886) with steam, and in 1915 was finally converted to electricity. In 2002 it was declared a National Monument.

The route of the Lavra Funicular leads from the Largo da Anunciada at the bottom (close to the Avenida da Liberdade), to the Rua Câmara Pestana at the top. The trail is 188 metres long and has an average gradient of nearly 23%.
