The current building of the church of Santa Catarina (Igreja de Santa Catarina) was formerly a convent of the Anchorites of Sao Paulo da Serra de Ossa dedicated to the Holy Sacrament. It was built in 1647 and most of its original construction preserved to the present times - only the roof was rebuilt because of its damage during the earthquake in 1755. In 1835 the monastery was converted into today's parish church of Santa Catarina.

The Church of Santa Catarina has a great artistic value and it was classified as a national monument. It is the impressive example of 17th century Portuguese Baroque and religious art and its interior contains a large collection of fantastic national paintings. For the special attention deserves also beautiful carvings and plasterworks.
