The Ajuda Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico da Ajuda) is located in the Belém district. This is the oldest and the first botanical garden opened in Portugal. It was created in 1768 by the Marques de Pombal. It contains thousands of different species of plants and trees, particularly from the Portugal's former colonies. There are in example a few interesting hundred-old trees. On the garden's area are also located few charming fountains and small lakes, as well as a greenhouse, an amphitheatre and a restaurant.
