Museu-Escola de Artes Decorativas Portuguesas is located in the corner of Miradouro das Portas do Sol in the 17th century Azurara Palace. The building in 1947 was bought by philanthropist Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva, who wanted to house there his collection of decorative art.
This brilliant collection shows the various decorative styles of Portuguese aristocratic life from the period between 17th and 19th centuries. It is placed in several rooms and organized by periods and functionality of specimens.
The exhibition contains an unique collection of furniture, textiles, porcelain, jewellery, paintings and tiles. The most attractive are collections of silver and Chinese porcelain, of Flemish tapestries dated on the period from 16th to 18th centuries, and of the Indo-Portuguese furniture.
