The Fado Museum is located the building of Recinto da Praia, in the neighbourhood of historic district of Alfama. It was inaugurated on September 1998. The Museum's exhibition is dedicated to Fado - a famous traditional Portuguese music, and perfectly presents its history and evolution. The wide range collection of about 14000 pieces includes musical instruments, discs, photos, posters, newspapers, stage costumes, wax figures, audiovisual displays, and more. The most interesting is the wonderful collection of Portuguese guitars.

Apart from the permanent and temporary exhibitions the Museum has also the documentation centre, small auditorium, school, store and a restaurant.
