Parque de Eduardo VII
Parque Eduardo VII,
1070-099 LISBOA
Parque de Eduardo VII is the second largest park in Lisbon. It occupies an area of 26 hectares and extends from the north part of Avenida de Liberdad, from Marques de Pombal Square, up to the belevedere at the top. Originally it was known as Parque da Liberdad, but its name has been changed after the visit of Edward VII of England in 1903. The Eduardo VII Park, since its foundation, was used as a place for important national occasions, such as fairs, exhibitions, concerts and other events.
The greatest attraction of the Park is without any doubt the Greenhouse (
Estufa Fria) - the winter garden, which contains a large variety of tropical and exotic plants.
Apart from the hothouse there are also other facilities, such as:
a cactus garden,
ponds, streams, cascades and grottoes,
various statues, i. ex. the bust of Edward VII,
the Sport Pavilion dedicated to the famous Portuguese athlete Carlos Lopes,
viewing point,
restaurants, etc.
