Port of Lisbon The Port of Lisbon is one of the most important and the busiest ports on the European Atlantic coast. Its privileged location, between the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean, provides the best communication between the Atlantic coast and Europe, the north of Europe and the western Mediterranean, the Atlantic Isles and the north of Africa. It operates also the Trans Atlantic trips. Every year it receives large numbers of different type cruise ships: from the smallest one to the largest, and serves about 250 thousands passengers.
The Port of Lisbon is managed by APL - the Port of Lisboa Administration. It is located in the mouth in the Tagus river, on its north bank, between Belém and Santa Apolónia. It is well-sheltered, deep and has an area of 32.000 ha.
The Port of Lisbon contains four docks, which are: Belém, Santo Amaro, Bom Sucesso, Alcantara and, most recently, the Olivais Docks, and three passenger terminals for cruise ships. The passengers terminals are: the Alcantara, Rocha de Conde d'Óbidos and the Santa Apolónia.
